Gerry Dee is one of the funniest people to hit the comedy scene — ever. The creator, writer, and star of the smash hit CBC comedy series Mr. D, his signature stories about the absurdities of life at the front of the classroom and growing up the son of Scottish-immigrant parents have become famous to his fans.
In real life, Dee was a high school teacher — teaching was his career until switching to full-time comedy in 2003. Accordingly, he bases many of the jokes and quips seen in Mr. D on his personal experience.
Mr. D aired its final episode in 2018 after eight successful seasons. Today, Dee is the host of CBC’s Family Feud Canada, which premiered in December 2019.
In addition to his television work, Dee has also appeared at numerous comedy festivals, was named “Best Comic in Canada,” and finished third on NBC’s Last Comic Standing in 2008. He is also the author of the book, Teaching: It’s Harder Than It Looks.
