TED: "A Seat at the Table" Isn't the Solution for Gender Equity

A leading force in pop culture, Lilly Singh has made a major impact across industries and platforms, earning recognition as one of TIME’s “30 Most Influential People on the Internet” and Fast Company‘s ”100 Most Creative People in Business.” She is an award-winning entertainer, actress, producer, New York Times bestselling author, and gender equality advocate. In her engaging, humorous, and honest presentations, Singh draws on her multi-faceted career to share action-oriented insights on enhancing connection, leading with authenticity, building a gender-equal world, and, of course, how to be a “bawse”.

Beginning her career as a YouTube sensation, this Canadian icon successfully pivoted her online career to the big and small screens. Most recently, she starred in the animated film, Hitpig!  She also recently co-wrote, produced, and starred in her first feature film, Doin’ It, which premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival. Singh’s additional acting credits include The Muppets Mayhem, The Bad Guys, and The Mindful Adventures of Unicorn Island, which she also wrote and produced, among other projects.

Singh first built an expansive international audience as the host of NBC’s A Little Late with Lilly Singh. She went on to be the host and executive producer of CTV’s primetime quiz show, Battle of the Generations, and a judge on CityTV’s Canada’s Got Talent for three seasons. Singh is also the author of two books: the #1 New York Times bestseller How to Be a Bawse: A Guide to Conquering Life and Be a Triangle: How I Went from Being Lost to Getting My Life Into Shape.

Singh is the president of her own film and television production company, Unicorn Island. Through it, and its non-profit arm, Unicorn Island Fund and Lilly’s Library, she continues to blaze new paths in storytelling, spotlighting underrepresented voices and challenging social norms to transform the way the world sees, values, and invests in girls and women. Outside of film and television, Singh connects with her global audience to work towards a better world through her latest appointment as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Advocate for the United Nations.

In March 2024, Lilly launched a partnership with AAVRANI, an Ayurvedic science-backed beauty brand inspired by Indian cultural rituals, for a collaborative hair care collection that she helped create alongside its founder, Rooshy Roy.
