Farah Perelmuter
Title: Businesswoman

... helping others is the most powerful, gratifying, and rewarding part of owning a business."
- Farah Perernuter
For Farah Perlemuter, CEO of Speakers' Spotlight's day at the office means promoting and scheduling international speaking engagements for some of Canada's most famous people like Justin Trudeau, Adrienne Clarkson, and Michael (Pinball) Clemens. A shining Canadian female entrepreneur, Farah is listed in Canada's Who's Who and has been featured in numerous national publications, twice being nominated as A Woman Who Makes A Difference by Toronto Life Fashion. She was also nominated for the Business Development Bank of Canada's Young Entrepreneur Award and the Top Forty Under Forty Awards. In 2002, Chatelaine Magazine nomiated her for the Rotman Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year. Profit Magazine ranked Farah as one of Canada's Top 100 Women Business Owners, in 2004, 2001 and 2006. Her business has been selected as one of the 100 fastest growing companies in Canada.
All of these awards pale in comparison to the efforts of charity that Farah and her husband Martin commit to every year.
Farah and Martin founded the Speakers' Spotlight Showcase in 1995, an annual fundraising event to support a number of charitable organizations. Farah is adamant that, "...helping others is the most powerful, gratifying, and rewarding part of owning a business.
Over the past eleven years, the Speakers' Spotlight Showcase event has raised funds by inviting clients to experience and be inspired by North Americas most extraordinary speakers. Building on the success of this went, they plan to hold a showcase in three major cities across Canada in 2007. Speakers' Spotlight Showcases have raised funds to take 100 children struggling with cancer to events such as, the theatrical presentation of the Lion King and sports games. And it doesn't stop there. Funds have also been donated to childrens facilities across the country to purchase medi cal equipment, including; a patient monitor for Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children and an incubator stretcher for the Mount Sinai Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Perlemuter feels honoured to be able to support various charities
including the Childrens Wish Foundation, Special Olympics World Winter Games, the Literacy Coalition, and many more.
After Farah and Martin visited south East Asia, Tailand and Indonesia, they decided that in 2006 they would do something that could significantly change childrens lives.
The pair partnered with Free The Children, a children's charity de voted to providing educational opportunities and reduce poverty in the developing world, by adopting a village in the Masai Mara region of rural Kenya. Man children there live in extreme poverty and their families face major life challenges every day.
Farah and Martin's goal for 2007 is to purchase one hundred thousand dollars worth of medical supplies, build a one-room school-house and pay a teacher's wages for a year, in Kenya.
Farah said,"Instead of sending clients holiday presents, we sent them a Christmas Card telling them that instead of a gift we gave money to our kids' - $25,000 worth of medical equipment" The response from her clients has been overwhelming and supportive.
Her hopes are that women in business will be inspired by her philosophy, take up the challenge, and give help where ever it is needed.
